In WERA racing at Miller Motorsports Park this past weekend, riders supported by Lindemann Engineering won races, set personal best lap times and generally had a great time blasting around a fun, safe track with a great club.
Starting with the youngest: Kenny Anderson took two wins, Heavyweight SB Novice & F-II Novice as well as a second in 125 GP. This was his first visit to Miller. Kenny rode two RS125’s tuned by his hard working Dad, Eric. Both bikes have suspension that has been valved and sprung by LE.
Kenny’s hard working Dad, Eric some how found time to ride his ZX-6R with LE fork valving and had a blast.
Scott Reavey rode his SV650 to a new personal best at Miller of 2:06, 1.5 sec better than last years time! Scott says “Oh yah, I also got my 1st ever win in Lightweight Twins and a 3rd in F-2.” Scott’s forks have been valved and sprung by LE and he has a custom Penske shock by LE.
Team Short Bus’s Andy Kenefick was so happy when he called while driving home that I could only understand a few things he said, like: “I went faster every time I went out.” And “You are a Fucking Genius!” Andy seems to like the job LE did re-valving and re-spring the stock shock on his ‘06 GSXR 750. His forks already had a kit installed with the correct springs, LE adjusted the valving and look what happened. Andy decided to have LE valve his suspension after we adjusted his clickers at a CVMA race and he dropped 5 seconds off his best lap time.
In other news: Albert rode his R-6 with LE valving at a Streets of Willow track day and went two seconds faster than he ever has and with less drama.
About Ed Sorbo: He’s OK with being called a Fucking Genius.

MotoYard @ Buttonwillow
Yesterday with MotoYard at Buttonwillow I had only 5 clients, all of them repeats. Most of the day was spent with them telling me how great their bikes worked or just riding by giving me the Thumbs-Up. What a boring day…
Emil brought me his bike last week to have everything done to his forks and shock. I did the final clicker adjustments at my shop and excepted to dial it in at the track. That never happened, Emil said it was perfective…
So I went riding myself…

Communication Skills

I’ve been working with Kenny and his Dad, Eric, for a few years now. Kenny is moving from Kart track bikes to full size track bikes. We have been up grading his suspension. We are also working on his communication skills as they apply to working with his crew chief.
On this test day at a top secret Kart track we did a little test after dialing in the bike and rider. I sent Kenny out for a few laps at a time with the settings mess up in a way that I knew what he would feel. Then I listened to how he explained the feel of the bike.
It’s the job of the rider to tell the crew chief what he or she feels. It’s the job of the crew chief to understand what the rider is saying. To make this understanding come about, a little work is required from both.
In this photo I’m making changes without Kenny knowing what they are. Then he will do 2 laps and report back.
The last test was the toughest one, I messed with the bikes balance. When Kenny was riding, Eric asked what Kenny would feel and I answered. When Kenny came in, he said almost word for word what I said he would.
Now Kenny and I know we are speaking the same language.
Data systems were developed because crews could not get good info from most riders. When Kenny gets on a bike with data and what he says matches what the data says, you can be sure his crew chief will be happy.
By the way, Kenny won his races the day after this test.

3 Seconds Faster
At yesterday’s MotoYard track day one of my clients had an on board timer. He did a few sessions before deciding to hire me.
I made my first set of adjustments based on what he said about the bike and what I felt by bouncing on it in the pits.
When he came in from his next ride he showed me his timer, 3 seconds a lap faster and he said it took less effort. Sounds like a good way to spend $50 to me!
